The Gallery

In the heart of Old Florence, a stone's throw from the Ponte Vecchio and the historical church of San Frediano, exists a world of craftsmen, restorers and carvers who, for hundreds of years, have handed down the traditions from father to son.

It is here, in the "Oltrarno" area, that one can still find handcrafted objects made with passion and conceived with the intention of providing something new and exclusive, based on the standards of beauty as estabilished by the masters of the original "Scuola Fiorentina".

Consequently our concept of today's handicraft, stems from lessons learnt from yesterday's great carvers, chisellers and restorers.

As a tribute to these craftsmen, it is our aim not to squander their craft, but for it to evolve into something elegant and original. The Castorina Family, of Sicilian origin, has devoted itself to the work of preservation since 1895, in a time still characterised by workshops along with the "art of getting by".

Using the skills handed down by his father, Eugenio Castorina first started working in Catania and subsequently moved to Rome. He finally settled in Florence in the 40's, due to the town having become an ideal site for all handicraft-related activities.
